XR Warwick District joined the Restore Nature Now march on Saturday 22 June in London, alongside a wide range of organisations, from the RSPB and the National Trust to Wildlife Trusts, to bring 5 key demands to the UK government of the near future:
- More funding for nature-friendly farming
- Make polluters pay for the damage they cause
- More space for nature in enlarged protected areas and on public land
- A legal right for communities to clean air and water and access to nature
- Fair and effective climate action to halve UK emissions by 2030
Many protestors created beautiful masks, hats, clothing and models depicting animals and other aspects of the natural world. There was much singing and drumming, and a very creative energy.
At Parliament Square we heard a climate choir, and passionate speeches by Liz Bonnin; Steve Backshall; Tanya Steele of WWF; Dr. Amir Khan; Dale Vince; Chris Packham; Feargal Sharkey (on river pollution); Namonte Nenquimo, an indigenous activist from the Ecuadorian Amazon; Rebecca Wrigley from Rewilding Britain; Richard Benwell of the Wildlife and Countryside Link; and others.
An optimistic and positive day of action.
Whether you could make it to the march or not, come and join us at the Black Pug 7PM (or 6PM for food) 3 July for a debrief/celebration and discussion of what next. Disabled access at rear, please contact us at
